Objectives

The new learning objectives of this exercise are to familiarize the user with setting up a network link to an external repository using the Syndeia dashboard.

...

This exercise assumes the student has

...

  • IBM Rational Rhapsody 8.2 installed correctly on his or her machine with a valid license for use, and

  • Syndeia 3.3 installed as a plugin for Rhapsody with a valid license for use

The specific instructions call for creating a network connection to a Windchill PLM repository, but the user can carry out the same process to any external repository (including Teamcenter, Jira, Jama, Doors NG, GitHub, Artifactory, TestRail or MySQL), assuming that the appropriate interface has been properly installed and the user has access credentials (url, username and password, typically) to that repository.

Exercise

  1. Start Rhapsody and open a SysML model. In this example, we use the Syndeia _Tutorial_Testbed.rpy model, but any model with a block structure should work. The model with BDD and model view browser open is shown in Figure 1.

  2. Right-click on the Syndeia_Tutorial_Testbed package at the top of the model view browser and select Syndeia Dashboard. If you are using Syndeia Cloud, select a Syndeia project. Syndeia Dashboard will open with the Repository Manager tab showing, as shown in Figure 3. The categories that appear on the left will depend on which Syndeia interfaces your are licensed for.

    1. Under Repository Name, enter a short title (e.g. WC-User) that will represent the repository on the Syndeia dashboard.

    2. Under URL, enter the link to the Windchill repository. Your PLM administrator should be able to provide this.

    3. Enter your User name and password. In order to make connections to elements in a repository with Syndeia, you must have access to the repository listed in the URL.

    4. Click OK.

  2. The left-hand panel under the Repository Manager tab should show the new repository. Select that repository and it will appear on the right-hand side of the dashboard. The right panel will now show all the products which the user has access to, as in Figure 6 for Windchill.
