Using the Repository Manager

  1. The objective of this exercise is to create access from the MagicDraw to a new repository using the Syndeia dashboard.

  2. Start MagicDraw and open a SysML model. In this example, we use the Satellite sample model provided as part of the ParaMagic parametric solver plugin, but any model with a block structure should work. The Satellite model with BDD and Containment browser open are shown in Figure 1.

  3. Add Syndeia profile to model by selecting Use Module from the MagicDraw file menu and adding the Syndeia profile as shown in Figure 2. Click Finish to complete.

  4. Right-click on the Satellite block in the containment browser and select Syndeia→Dashboard. This will open the Syndeia Dashboard with the Repository Manager tab showing, as shown in Figure 3 .

  5. To add a new Windchill repository to the list on the left, right-click on Windchill Repositories and select Add. The window shown in Figure 4 will appear.

    1. Under Repository Name, enter a short title (e.g. WC-User) that will represent the repository on the Syndeia dashboard.

    2. Under URL, enter the link to the Windchill repository. Your PLM administrator should be able to provide this.

    3. Enter your User name and password. In order to make connections to elements in a repository with Syndeia, you must have access to the repository listed in the URL.

    4. Click OK.

  6. To add a new Teamcenter repository to the list on the left, right-click on Teamcenter Repositories and select Add. The window shown in Figure 5 will appear.

    1. Under Repository Name, enter a short title (e.g. TC-User) that will represent the repository on the Syndeia dashboard.

    2. Under URL, enter the link to the Teamcenter repository. Your PLM administrator should be able to provide this.

    3. Enter your User name and password. In order to make connections to elements in a repository with Syndeia, you must have access to the repository listed in the URL.

    4. Click OK.

  7. The left-hand panel under the Repository Manager tab should show the new repository. Select that repository and it will appear on the right-hand side of the dashboard. The right panel will now show all the products which the user has access to, as in Figure 6 for Windchill, or the contents of the home folder, as in Figure 7 for Teamcenter.

The Connection Manager - Creating a Connection Manually

  1. The objective of this exercise is to demonstrate how to create a connection between pre-existing model elements in the SysML and repository. Currently, only a Reference connection can be created in this way. This process differs from previous tutorials, where the connection was created automatically by dragging an element from one domain into the other.

  2. Create a SysML project including the Syndeia profile and at least one block (e.g. Alpha).

  3. Launch the Syndeia dashboard from Alpha and add a repository to the project. We will use a Local File System Repository, although this would also work with a PLM or database repository. From the Syndeia Dashboard, Repository Manager, right-click on Local File System Repositories and select Add… Figure 91 shows how to add a user-selected name and the root path.

  4. From the Connection Manager tab, the local file repository contents can be displayed, as in Figure 92. Create a reference connection by selecting the SysML element (Alpha) and the repository element (e.g. 00004174…jpeg), and the Connection Type (Reference) and click Create.

  5. Refresh the Connection Browser tab and expand the Alpha SysML element to see the connection created, as shown in Figure 93.
