Exercise 4.1 - Browsing Windchill Tree in Syndeia
Objectives
The new learning objective of this exercise is to:
add new Windchill repository in Syndeia
browse the contents of Windchill repository
Preparation
This exercise assumes the student has:
Cameo System Modeler 2022x (or MagicDraw with SysML plug-in) or later installed correctly on his or her machine with a valid license for use,
Syndeia 3.7.1 or later installed as a plugin for Cameo/MagicDraw with a valid license for use
Windchill interface, correctly configured with a valid license for use.
Exercise
This exercise assumes the user has access to the SysML model Syndeia_Windchill_Mapping_Tutorial.mdzip (get it here - SysML Models, Profiles and Mappings). Open the model in Cameo, right-click on package Windchill_Mapping, launch the Syndeia dashboard, and select a Syndeia Cloud project if required.
In the Repository Manager tab, either select and authorize an existing Windchill repository on the LHS if one has already been added by your organization, or refer to the instructions for Windchill in Adding a Repository if a Windchill repository has been added yet. Click on Repository at the top of the left panel and select SysML Repository. Click on Repository at the top of the right panel and select the 'Windchill' repository. The Windchill repository should be shown with Libraries, Products, and Projects categories as shown in Figure 1.
Expand Libraries to show the libraries in your Windchill repository as in Figure 2. Likewise, Products and Projects can be expanded as shown in Figure 3.
When there are more elements that are not shown due to pagination, the cloud Fetch more… icon will be shown, and clicking the plus sign next to it will return the next page of results as shown for Products in Figure 4.
To change the number of results fetched per page, the Per page setting can be changed in the Settings tab under Windchill as shown below. After entering the number, press the Enter or Return key on your keyboard, then click Apply to save the new setting.
Expanding a Project, such as Spacecraft in Figure 6, will show the Folders and Parts it contains. Again, Fetch more… can be expanded if there are additional contents, like the rest of the parts in this folder.
Expand the top-level part, in this case Spacecraft, which is shown with its latest version A.10 in parentheses. Under this you will see Version History which can be expanded to show all versions, in this case A.1 through A.10, as shown in Figure 7.
Expand Uses and Occurrences if present, and they’ll be displayed as shown in Figure 8. For Uses, the number in brackets is the Quantity.
When viewing the Spacecraft part in Windchill, the structure should match what we saw in Syndeia as shown below for the Uses (Figure 9) and Occurrences (Figure 10).
The Uses or Occurrences can be expanded multiple levels to show the structure as shown in Figure 11 in Syndeia, compared with Figure 12 in Windchill.
Related Documents will also be shown in the tree, if present, as the Aircraft Platform Design document is shown under the Described By relation for Aircraft_Platform part in Figure 13.
