Digital Thread Explorer (DTE)

The Digital Thread Explorer (DTE) in the Syndeia Web Dashboard makes it possible for users to start with any artifact in any repository and navigate relations from/to that artifact. It is similar to browsing a social network (“friends of friends”) but with live digital engineering data!

Tutorials

The Syndeia Web Dashboard Tutorials available here Tutorials - Syndeia Web Dashboard include step-by-step exercises that showcase the Digital Thread Explorer for each repository (e.g., Aras Innovator, Jira, Jama Connect). We highly recommend that you go through the exercises.

General Approach

A general approach for using the Digital Thread Explorer is presented below.

(1) Right click on any artifact in the Tree View of any repository and select the Graph View menu, such as shown in Figure 1 below for the Spacecraft-Physical assembly in Teamcenter repository.

(2) The Syndeia Web Dashboard will switch to the Graph View tab and display that artifact as a node. Click on the Expand Relations button image-20240429-200954.png to fetch and display the incoming and outgoing relations to/from the artifact.

Figure 2: Expand Relations to view Incoming and Outgoing Relations

(3) The Syndeia Web Dashboard will fetch incoming and outgoing intra-model relations from/to that artifact and display. In the example shown below, the Spacecraft-Physical assembly item in Teamcenter has BOM relations to other items, such as GN&C Subsystem, Harness Subsystem, Payload Subsystem, and others. Click the Relations Expand button image-20240429-200954.png for other artifacts, such as Payload Subsystem, and view the incoming/outgoing relations as shown in Figure 3 below.

  • DTE under the Repositories menu (as shown here) only shows the intra-model relations since you are browsing the repository independent of a Digital Thread Project.

  • DTE in the Digital Thread Project Dashboard → Workspace tab will show both the intra- and inter-model relations for the given Digital Thread Project. Refer to Repositories - Digital Thread Project to learn more.
