User Management - Basics

The basics of User Management capabilities of the Syndeia Web Dashboard are presented on this page.

Overview

The User Management page in the Syndeia Web Dashboard is accessible from the Users menu in the main menu bar, and is visible to users with elevated privileges - refer to (parent page) for details. The table below shows the actions available on the User Management page and the privileges / roles that a user must have to perform these actions.

General recommendation - User management should be performed by the Super User or a user with Admin role. See for details.

List Users

(1) Sign in to Syndeia Web Dashboard and click on the Users menu image-20240419-193817.png in the main menu bar. Note that the Users menu is visible to users with elevated privileges - .

(2) You should see a table of users, as shown in Figure 1 below.

(3) By default, the table shows enabled users. You can use the drop down on the top RHS to view disabled users or all users (enabled and disabled), as shown in Figure 2 below.

Create User (local)

(1) Click the Add a user button image-20240420-153945.png on the top RHS.

(2) Fill out the form as required. See the Global Privileges page for a description of each permission.

(3) Click Save to create (add) a new local user (or Cancel to cancel).

Update User

(1) Click on the specified username in the User Management page and you should see the User Details page for the selected user, as also shown in Figure 4 below.

(2) Update name (First Name, Last Name), Roles, Global Privileges, or Digital Thread Project Privileges for the given user.

(3) Click Save to update or (or Cancel to cancel).


Update User Privileges in Bulk

(1) Select multiple users, as shown in Figure 5 below.

(2) Click the Edit users image-20240420-154233.png button on the top RHS. This will bring up the window to bulk update user privileges, as shown in Figure 6 below.

 Note, this form (currently) does not indicate the current resultant boolean permission state for all the selected users.

(3) Check the specific Global Permissions that need to be applied to all the selected users. Refer to for a description of Global Permissions.

(4) Click OK to update or (or Cancel to cancel).

Disable Local Users

Disabling a user deactivates the user and prevents the user from signing in to Syndeia Cloud (Web Dashboard or API). The user data is still preserved since user keys may be used in created by and modified by fields in digital thread data. Enabling or Disabling users is only applicable for local users. Users managed by LDAP or SSO identity providers configured with Syndeia Cloud must be enabled / disabled in the respective identity providers.

(1) Go to the User Details page for the specific user that needs to be disabled, as shown in Figure 7 below.

(2) Click the Disable user tab image-20240420-154802.pngon the left.  You should get another page asking for confirmation, as shown in Figure 8 below.

(3) Click the Disable User button to disable the user (or the Cancel button to cancel).


Enable Local User

(1) Go to the User Details page for the specific user that needs to be disabled, as also show in Figure 7 above.

(2) Click the Enable user tab image-20240420-154938.png on the left. You should get another page asking for confirmation and to set a new password, as shown in Figure 9 below.

(3) Type the new password then click the Enable User button to enable the user (or the Cancel button to cancel).


Reset User Passwords

Resetting user passwords is an admin-level operation - see table in the Overview section above.  This is distinct from the Change Password operation which can only be performed by users themselves from the My Profile menu in the main menu bar - refer to to learn more.  

(1) Go to the User Details page of the specific user whose password needs to be reset, as also shown in Figure 7 above.

(2) Click on the Reset Password tab image-20240420-155131.png on the left. You should get another page with a prompt for the new password, as shown in Figure 10 below.

 

(3) In the New Password field, enter the new password.

(4) Click on the Submit button to reset to the new password (or the Cancel button to cancel).
